ABOUT THE SHOW:
The timeless "Wizard of Oz" tale has been adapted into a dazzling musical. A cyclone carries Dorothy and Toto to the magical Land of Oz. When Dorothy's house squashes the Wicked Witch of the East, she is ecstatically thanked by the liberated Munchkins and given permission to wear the witch's powerful silver slippers. From there, Baum's lovable characters, rubber-legged Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and Tin Woodsman, join Dorothy on a journey to meet the great Oz. While on their trek, they battle the Wicked Witch of the West, who is determined to get revenge for the death of her sister. This bright musical is charged with a bundle of wonderful songs and thrill after thrill... like the escape from the Fighting Trees and encountering the enchanted poppies. Eventually, Glinda the Good Witch helps Dorothy defeat the evil witch and her winged monkeys. The great and powerful wizard grants Dorothy's friends their wishes and of course, helps Dorothy return to Kansas.

Rehearsals begin September 15, 2011.
Rehearsals are Thursdays from 3:30-5:00, and Saturdays from 10:00am-12:00pm.
Scheduled to perform November 18, 19, & 20, 2011.

Auditions will be held at McLaughlin Studios.
For those auditioning, prepare 16-32 bars of a song selection, or up to 1 minute instrumental track. A small dance combination will be taught, so comfortable shoes are recommended. All who audition will be cast. Auditions will determine lead roles/solos.
There will be a participation fee to all cast and is due at time of registration.

The Company is a place to introduce or improve acting techniques and will culminate in a performance of a full-length play or several one-act plays depending on the number and experience of interested actors. Actors will be asked to read from a script of the director's choosing. If accepted into the troupe, actors may choose to perform in one or up to three productions (Comedy, Mystery, & Drama).
Instructor: Rita DeMatteis; Rita received her degrees in theatre from San Francisco State University where she also did her graduate work. She spent 35 years teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced acting classes at George Washington High School in San Francisco. She directed dozens of shows, scenes from which were repeatedly selected for the Mayor's Command Performance. When on sabbatical, Rita worked as an artist-in-residence at the American Conservatory Theatre Company. Currently Rita is starting and serving as director for "The Company", and ongoing theatre group for young actors ages 15+ at MTC. The Company will perform comedies, dramas and mysteries.
