Artistic Team 2011/2012 Founder/Artistic Director: Gemma McKenney A Graduate of S.F.State in Vocal Music Education, under the highly regarded tutelage of Dr. J. Habermann, Gemma traveled throughout the world with the SFSUChamber Singers. Also a private voice instructor for choral, opera, classical, musical theater and jazz/pop, she is able to work with all age groups. Her teaching approach is catered to each individual musical style and voice. She is vivacious, kind and well-liked by everyone. This will be the third MTC season which she will serve as a director. Technical Director: Owen Smith Owen graduated from CSU Sacramento with a Bachelors in Theatre. He was a part of Sacramento Music Circus and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival through Southern Oregon University. Owen works in the theatre shop backstage at CSU Sacramento, working on sets, props, and maintenance. He has been a lighting designer for many theatre companies and has been a part of many shows including "The Crucible", "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "As You Like It," "Metamorphoses," "Frida," "Love Isadora," "42nd Street," "Curtains," "In The Blood," "My Visits With My Grandmother Marta," and "The Underpants". He is skilled in sound, lighting, backstage, and set construction.
Rita received her degrees in theatre from San Francisco State University where she also did her graduate work. She spent 35 years teaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced acting classes at George Washington High School in San Francisco. She directed dozens of shows, scenes of which were repeatedly selected for the Mayor's Command Performance. When on sabbatical, Rita worked as an artist-in-residence at the American Conservatory Theatre Company. Currently Rita is assisting in direction of MTC productions and is starting "The Company," an ongoing theatre troupe for the advanced young actor performing non-musicals. Music Director: Greg McLaughlin Greg is a graduate of Sac State with a masters in music. He is co-owner of McLaughlin Studios Music and Dance Education Facility in Loomis. Greg has been on the faculty of the Sierra College Music Department for the past 18 years and is currently department chair. He is director of instrumental music, vocal jazz and general music studies. Greg’s good nature and intense musical prowess makes him the perfect combination of educator, mentor and music guru. Kendall began dancing over 15 years ago, specializing in Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Contemporary. During her time at Rocklin High School, Kendall was Dance IV Student Choreographer and Dance Team Captain . While obtaining her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology at San Diego State University, she also continued studying dance through SDSU's distinguished School of Music and Dance.
Jeanne Jacobson her classical ballet training from Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica, California. A former soloist with the Sacramento Ballet, she has also danced professionally with Universal Pictures, Sacramento Music Circus, E:motion Dance Ensemble, and Ballet Folklorico de IMBA Sacramento. Since 2008, Jeanne has added swing dance, Argentine tango, ballroom and salsa to her repertoire. Jeanne is a proud member of Actor's Equity Association and is a regular instructor at Midtown Stomp, in Sacramento, California.
